Apple is reportedly testing a MacBook Neo with more RAM

An A19 Pro update is on the way for the MacBook Neo, plus OLED screens for some of Apple’s pricier laptops.

Following the MacBook Neo’s huge popularity so far, Apple is reportedly developing an updated version of its budget laptop with a new processor and more memory, and even has plans to refresh the model with new colors. Following a similar report from analyst Tim Culpan earlier this year, Bloomberg ’s Mark Gurman says the new Neo will run on an A19 Pro processor, which currently powers the iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max and the iPhone Air, unlike the current laptop’s A18 Pro that was originally in the iPhone 16 Pro. The chip upgrade also means the updated Neo may have more RAM, likely 12GB rather than the original 8GB.

However, ongoing component shortages will almost certainly mean the next Neo costs more than the original did, previewed by Apple raising prices on nearly all of its devices last month. Another way it could get more expensive to start is the possibility that Apple could discontinue the lowest-priced 256GB version of the Neo.

In addition to rumors of an updated Neo, Gurman also says Apple is planning to release new iMacs, which last got a refresh in 2024, with OLED screens. Other long-rumored updates like the M6 MacBook Pro and OLED touchscreen MacBooks are also reportedly on the way, with the OLED models coming sometime late this year or early next year, as well as a newly redesigned base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M7 chip inside for next year.
