Logitech’s new haptics-based gaming mouse is a little better and $20 more

Better battery life and a more responsive sensor are the highlights in Logitech’s X3 Superstrike.

The G Pro Superstrike mouse is one of Logitech’s most interesting products. Unlike other gaming mice, it has haptic actuators beneath its two main buttons instead of mechanical switches, which decreases latency and allows for a custom click feel (the click can be super subtle, more jolty, or turned off entirely). The tech debuted in the G Pro X2 Superstrike in February, and there’s already a sequel. Well, it’s more like a 1.5 rather than a true successor.

The G Pro X3 Superstrike is out October 6th for $199.99, and comes in a bold pink (as pictured) or black color scheme. The X2 will remain available at $179.99. The notable improvements with the new model include a more responsive sensor, increased battery life, and improved weight distribution. For casual gamers, the boosts are incremental and, unless you’re a pro, perhaps inconsequential to your gaming experience.

The X3 supports up to 8,000Hz polling rate wirelessly, while the X2 could only achieve that speed when connected via a USB-C cable. It can last up to 135 hours per charge, which is a big improvement over the X2’s 90-hour claim — impressive considering the new model weighs two grams less in the US (it’s 61 grams in the EMEA version). Other changes include a Hero 2 sensor that has a higher ceiling for resolution (48K DPI versus 44K in the X2), higher acceleration (90G versus 88G in the X2), and higher max speed of 930 IPS (888 in the X2).

It’s a little puzzling to see Logitech so quickly launch a follow-up to the X2 Superstrike with such small feature improvements. Though, at least it’s keeping the older (still great) model available, letting more people try out its very fun haptics-based clicks for a little less. It’s worth keeping in mind that the X2 temporarily dropped to $129.99 recently, so it’s possible we’ll see a similar deal coming soon ahead of the holidays.
