Leaked images reveal new colors for Amazon’s next entry-level Kindle

The new basic Kindle will be available in light blue, green, and mauve with an updated design.

Amazon typically introduces new Kindle models a few months ahead of the holiday shopping season, and this year it looks like that will include a bigger update to the entry-level Kindle than what debuted in 2024. The last upgrades to the basic Kindle model were limited to a brighter backlight, a new dark mode, and faster page turns, but according to leaked images shared by WinFuture , the next version will come with a minor redesign and expanded color options.

The last entry-level Kindle model was available in black and matcha green colors, and while the leaked images don’t reveal the official names Amazon has given the new colors, they include light blue, green, and mauve options, in addition to black.

A more enticing reason for current Kindle owners to upgrade is that the new version of the entry-level model relocates the power button from the bottom of the e-reader to the top right edge, which could help prevent users from accidentally putting it to sleep when resting the e-reader on something while reading. The leaked images also reveal more rounded corners for the new Kindle’s screen and WinFuture speculates, based on some of the images that appear to show the e-reader with a slightly recessed E Ink panel, that multiple versions could be available with different display features.

The leaks don’t reveal anything about other upgrades to the entry-level Kindle including what E Ink screen it will use, how much storage it will come with, battery life, or pricing. The 2024 version of the basic Kindle debuted at $109.99 but last month Amazon increased its price to $149.99 as a result of ““significant increases in memory and storage component costs.”
